This document establishes the functional requirements for the PAVE PILLAR Systems Architecture. This architecture is specifically targeted for advanced tactical fighters, and in general for all military aircraft applications. The PAVE PILLAR Architecture addresses those functions which could be implemented with common hardware and computer programs to allow adaptation to either air-to-air or air-to-ground missions. This document defines the major elements of the PAVE PILLAR Architecture, the mechanizations for inter-connecting those elements, a set of common modules from which those elements could be constructed, and the operation of the network constructed of these elements. The PAVE PILLAR core avionics exploits the commonality in air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. The PAVE PILLAR core avionics consists of the following functional areas: (1) Digital Signal Processing, (2) Mission Processing, (3) Vehicle Management Processing, and (4) Avionics Systems Control.
