The study examined current practices within the United States for the processing of traffic cases in order to identify promising new approaches for improving the disposition of traffic cases. The study results are presented in three volumes: a summary volume and two reference volumes. Reference volume I presents the results of three sub-studies which were undertaken in support of this effort. Part I contains a survey of literature describing and analyzing traffic case disposition systems. Part II presents the results of a national mail survey conducted to identify innovative methods or practices in handling traffic cases. Parts III and IV show the results of a comprehensive survey of applicable statutes in all fifty states and the District of Columbia.
