The effects of lift/drag ratio and gross-thrust/ram-drag ratio on the benefits to be obtained from thrust deflection are analyzed, and it is shown that combinations of low values of these parameters can result in a substantial advantage. For instance, at a lift/drag ratio of 4 and a gross-thrust/ram-drag ratio of 1.1, the range may be increased about 34 percent. The required increases in altitude and in engine capture area are also shown. (Author)
