This report represents an analysis of the Greater Bridgeport region's public service bus system. A map indicating the street routes and frequency of service of the 7 different bus companies points out that 26.7% of the Region's total area and 77.2% of the region's population is within 1/4 mile radius of the various bus routes. The report also defines those people who would most likely rely upon bus transit (i.e., the young, elderly, non-whites, whites, female head of households and the low and moderate income families) and indicates that the 1/4 mile service area of the present bus system includes the place of residence of almost all of the 'latent ridership' people. The report also presents information related to the Region's school bus transportation program, analyzes trends of changes in bus transit, and relates such changes to the regional plan of development. Suggestions related to improving bus transit and recommendations for further study are also presented.
