Some of the key issues of business intelligence operations and their impact on the definition of a business intelligence system are reviewed. The impact of the current, rapid developments in computing technology on the choices available for developing a system is considered. A short overview of the prototyping approach to system development is given. The current Rolls-Royce approach to developing an in-house prototype system is summarized.
