This is an interim report from a project that uses model scale tests to investigate ship response and loads encountered when a ship rams a large multiyear ice flow. In a discussion of test system design, scaling principles, ship model calibration, and model ice selection and tests are included. Measured test results and some of the analyses of the influence of ice strength on the ship response are presented.
