The stopping abilities of a 100,000 tons d.w. tanker equipped with different propeller types have been derived from model test results with the aid of a quasi-stationary method. Four propeller types have been examined i.e.

    a conventional screw propeller.

a screw and nozzle system (ducted propeller).

    a contra-rotating propeller system.

    a controllable pitch propeller.
