The finite element method has been used to compute buckling loads for some typical examples of ship-plating. The results show good agreement with those obtained with a simplified buckling analysis.

In addition a linearized large deflection analysis has been performed for a plate structure loaded by a combination of in-plane and normal pressure. This analysis demonstrates the gradual growth of the deflections due to the normal pressure until at a certain load-level the buckling mode becomes dominant.
