The oil crisis has given rise to the production of new types of the marine diesel engines with low fuel consumption. Their characteristics are long stroke, small number of cylinders and reduced number of revolutions. Dynamic behaviour of the new engines is not known yet. Therefore, a procedure for vibration analysis of these engines on the test bed utilizing the finite element method is presented in this paper. For illustration of the procedure, vibration analysis of a 4 RLA 90 engine has been performed. The procedure is verified comparing calculated and measured results.
