The West Coast Main Line is one of the most important railway modernisation projects. Within the specification framework lies a key parameter-reliability, and by inference-performance. It is this key parameter that sets the challenge, and that challenge embraces the future of asset management of the railway network. Asset management means the consideration of railway infrastructure holistically and its dynamic relationship with train operations. This paper brings closer, the concept for an integrated, intelligent, condition monitored system using auto-transformer electrification techniques. (13 pages)
