This study examines the design problem of control systems for autonomous flight of aircraft. Model predictive control is a well-established control method in which the control input is obtained by solving an optimal control problem. The dynamics of aircraft is known to contain a variety of nonlineari-ties. So far, nonlinear model predictive control has been proposed for the autonomous flight system considering aerodynamic force and moment coefficients as control inputs. From the practical point of view, aerodynamic force and moment coefficients are manipulated through flight control surfaces. Thus, the objective of this study is to propose a nonlinear model predictive control for autonomous flight considering flight control surfaces as control inputs.
