Activity based theory of traffic flow is applied to evaluate highway capacity. Highway space demanded by activities is velocity dependent and the input flow behaves as a random process. With this additions to SmartCap, a meso-scale software tool developed in the California PATH program, simulations results are improved. Comparison with results obtained with non-velocity dependent activities are presented.
