The problem of safety is the main obstacle to the full use and deployment of automated driving technologies. The article describes the weaknesses of automated driving systems and analyzes the principles of safe operation of automated vehicles. The development of safety assessment methods is essential for the safe deployment and operation of automated driving systems. In order to draw up full-fledged conclusions about the level of safety and the effectiveness of making a decision on further improvements, it is necessary to analyze the data on the operation of automated vehicles on public roads. The authors of the article have developed a methodology for the resulting assessment, which is a quantitative and objective method for assessing the safety of automated vehicles. Based on the analysis of the data obtained during each stage of operation, and depending on its results, developers can form requests for the refinement of existing or the development of new design and / or software.
