This study proposes a real-time location finding and crash detection system designed for radio controlled aircraft and drones. The system detects crashes and provides precise location information by combining GPS, accelerometer, and GSM technologies. The system can be used in small radio controlled planes and drones because of its low-power requirements, lightweight, and compact design. In the case of a crash, the system provides precise location coordinates and expedites response by sending SMS alerts to the emergency services or pre-designated contacts. The system’s ability to accurately determine position and detect crashes are demonstrated by the experimental studies. This technology has the potential to significantly increase safe operations of radio controlled planes and drones as well as reduce the response time in a number of drone applications, such as package delivery, search and rescue, and surveillance.
