An electric vehicle (EV) charger with a bidirectional power flow and good power quality at the supply side is proposed in this paper. The proposed charger works in grid-to-vehicle (G2V) mode and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) mode. In G2V mode, the vehicle battery charges from the grid whereas, in V2G mode, the battery discharges into the grid. The main advantage of a bidirectional EV charger is that it reduces pressure on the grid during high-demand periods and charges vehicles during off-peak hours at the lowest rates while feeding power back into the grid when the energy rates are highest and reducing your overall energy costs. Because of its high battery capacity, a fully charged EV can power an ordinary home for several days at a time, or considerably longer when combined with rooftop solar. This paper includes a simulation of the entire working of the proposed bidirectional EV charger using MATLAB SIMULINK version 2021b and also to view the operation of this EV charger in both G2V mode and V2G mode along with monitoring the state of charge of the EV battery.
