In this paper, we experimentally study polarization bistable characteristics of simplified mesa structure VCSELs. A distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) mirror is processed in a rectangular mesa structure waveguide and buried with polyimide. The almost square mesa structure VCSEL lases in two orthogonal linear polarization states. We demonstrate stable polarization switching by light injection.
