Renewable energy sources like solar energy are good for the environment. Photovoltaic (PV) converts direct sunlight into electricity, and the efficiency of this system is very low. This drawback can be overcome using grid-connected inverters. Also, the grid-connected PV system will significantly improve the connection between the source and consumers. This paper uses a PV-fed DC-DC boost chopper to track the maximum power point from a PV array with a grid-connected inverter. The HERIC converter is a grid converter because of its transformer-less operation, less complex design, cheaper cost, higher efficiency, and lesser leakage currents. The grid connection and minimization of leakage current are achieved with a second-ordered generalised integrator frequency locked loop (SOGI-FLL) technique and unipolar PWM switching. The entire grid-connected systems model is simulated in MATLAB / SIMULINK.
