The Nagasaki Prefecture Police are pursuing implementation of a universal traffic management systems (UTMS) as part of the sixth seven-year plan for introduction of traffic safety infrastructure. Initially, an advanced mobile information systems, corresponding to VICS, will be implemented, followed by a public transportation priority systems and mobile operation control systems, which are the goals of the UTMS Promotion Coordination Council. The efficacy of each of these systems is evaluated; and by using the results as feedback, the systems will be improved or expanded and work on further systems will begin as further parts of the UTMS project, aiming at safer, more pleasant and more environmentally-friendly transportation.
