We investigate the fundamental mode in a weakly guiding highly elliptic twisted optical fiber. The "exact" analytical solution of the vector wave equation for this problem is presented based on the effective reduction of a twisted fiber to a straight one. Polarization corrections to the propagation constant are found. It is demonstrated that in some limiting cases the rise of such corrections can be explained as a manifestation of topological Pancharatnam-Berry's phase. In arbitrary case this correction is a manifestation of the Aaronov-Anandan phase.
