The Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) systems is used in mission critical transportation applications, especially those for the modern urban railway systems. Along with the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) and the Automatic Train Operation (ATO) it forms the completes system for railway control, supervision and management for heavy traffic load and the increased number of trains running on the line. The Automatic Train Supervision system is responsible for monitoring and controlling the rail system to ensure that it conforms to an intended time schedule and traffic pattern to optimize railway operations and service reliability. This report is dedicated to the Controlguide® OCS system - a product of Siemens Mobility delivered and integrated on Metro line 3 in Sofia. It is a contemporary and highly automatic operational management system designated for high-capacity metro systems. The aim of this ATS system is to control and monitor the rail system so the circulation of trains converges to the schedule and traffic pattern. This enables automatic monitoring, interlocking control and automatic train protection and further entails an optimization of the railway operations and service reliability and the minimization of the effects of system abnormalities and equipment malfunctions. The report provides a view of the main characteristics, tasks and features which come with the modern ATS system of the metro line 3 in Sofia.
