In order to solve the problem of air traffic congestion caused by the increase of air traffic flow, the state of air traffic running is analyzed. The air traffic flow is researched based on ADS-B data to mine the spatio-temporal correlation of data and the characteristics of air traffic congestion in the process of generation, diffusion and disappearance evolution. And a method to identify route congestion characteristics based on spatio-temporal correlation is designed. The research results show that the method proposed can quickly and accurately obtain the results of state classification of the status level of traffic running in the section of route network.
