Based on the tracked vehicle hydrostatic transmission which combines a variable displacement piston pump and a fixed displacement piston motor, the paper present a study on hydraulic braking capacity of the hydrostatic transmission and the study show that it is affected by fluid viscosity, system pressure, pump speed, pump displacement, engine braking torque, hydraulic torque efficiency and volumetric efficiency, etc. Through theoretical and experimental analysis, the relations between braking capacity and its influencing factors were obtained. It is useful for braking control of hydrostatic transmission.
