The fiber plaque technology used in the alkaline Ni-Cd battery system known as FNC (fiber nickel cadmium) is discussed. An advanced design called FNC-Recom, which contains additional fiber plates that are used as a recombination device for rapid oxygen consumption, is described. The FNC-Recom cell design is explained, and performance data and experiences with their use in electric vehicles are reported.<>
