This paper presents an all-inclusive review and comparative analysis of single-input multi-output (SIMO) inverter topologies, with some suggestions on selection of suitable configurations for automotive applications. With the rising trend in the automotive industry towards full vehicle electrification and autonomous driving, X-by-wire (XBW) technologies play an integral role in this transition. XBW systems employ multiple electric motors/actuators to perform the various vehicular functions such as traction, braking, steering and suspension. As the number of electric motor drives in the vehicle increases, challenges and problems in terms of cost, space, reliability, control and energy management, arise. The SIMO inverter architecture for power inverters, with its reduced component count and centralized control, presents a promising solution.
