Vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) based on double photonic crystal reflectors for the heterogeneous integration on complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) are presented. The latest achievements in technological processing and optical mode engineering are shown and discussed.
