In this paper, the sensitivity of the differential magnetic anisotropy in permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) to deteriorated material properties at the punch edges of the rotor lamination is investigated. It is analysed whether this effect influences signal injection based methods for self-sensing control at low and zero speed. Different rotor topologies are compared at different load levels. The results achieved in this paper show that the effect of punch edges on the differential magnetic anisotropy is negligibly small. This simplifies the design process of PMSM.
