This study presents a development of a smart road quality monitoring system to support road inspection. Roads are very important infrastructure for ground transportation. The quality of roads has a direct impact on the safety and comfort of road users, including drivers, passengers, loads, and vehicles. Poor quality roads, such as bumpy roads, cracked roads, and potholes, make it difficult to ride and even more leads to accidents. Road quality monitoring must be performed frequently. Unfortunately, this monitoring is time consuming and costly. To simplify the process, a smart road quality monitoring system (SRQMS) is developed in this study. The SRQMS works by measuring vehicle vibration while passing a road. Poor road quality is indicated by high vibration on the vehicle. The SRQMS is made up of a NodeMCU ESP-12 as the microcontroller, an MPU6050 inertia sensor to measure vehicle vibration, a Neo- 6m GPS as the position sensor, and an SD card module to store measurement data. The experimental test of the developed SRQMS was carried out by installing it on a motorcycle and riding along a road target. The result showed that SRQMS was able to identify road quality and location that were presented on a map.
