In our increasingly populated world, the surge in personal vehicle use has intensified traffic congestion. People’s preference for personal cars over public transit has only compounded this issue. The problem isn’t limited to the roads; it extends to parking areas. At parking lots, long queues form because drivers must pay and open an entry gate, allowing one car at a time. This process consumes time and exacerbates traffic congestion. We introduce an Internet of Things (IoT) based smart parking system to address these challenges. Users can effortlessly book slots on a user-friendly website, register their license plate numbers, and pay a nominal fee. With IoT hardware like a servo motor, Raspberry Pi 4 (8GB RAM), along with a camera and advanced machine learning models like Google AutoML Vision for license plate detection and Google Cloud Vision for license plate recognition, These models extract text from images captured by parking lot cameras, allowing for high precision license plate recognition and validation. The system validates registered license plates and automatically opens the gate, streamlining traffic and parking procedures. As a result, entry waits are significantly reduced.
