Fuel injection quantity of diesel is controlled through an electromagnetic actuator in this paper. From the study of theories and a number of experiments, the available mathematical model of this kind of actuator is advanced. From the model, it can be seen that the electromagnetic actuator has obvious nonlinear time-variability and time delay. For such a complicated controlled object, this paper improve the control precision from two aspects: hardware and control arithmetic. In the aspect of hardware, mechanical magnification and double-feedback circuit magnification are used. As control arithmetic, a fuzzy PI-Smith controller is advanced in this paper. The experiments show that the method is effective and has fine precision, satisfies the control requirements very well.
