In this paper, we propose NavIC based synchronization for Space Launch Vehicle tracking using a receiver-less Beacon and ground based passive Radar. This approach reduces the size of the Beacon on the launch vehicle and eliminates the high power transmitter at the ground station Radars without compromising the tracking precision and accuracy compared to the conventional Beacon approach. The elimination of high power transmitter enhances the reliability of the Radars and the reduced size of the Beacon enhances the payload capacity. The synchronization between passive Radar and Beacon can be established using the timing information from the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS, operational name is NavIC) or GPS. A prototype has been implemented using Commercial Off The Shelf components (COTS) to prove the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed tracking methodology.
