Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) has made India self-reliant in terms of navigation services. In this paper, NavIC’s capability to provide precise Position, Velocity, and Time (PVT) information is utilized for providing geolocation information to Reefer Monitoring system. Refrigerated container (Reefer) is the primary logistics carrier of international shipping. Unfavorable environmental variations may degrade the quality of the goods. It is important to monitor the status of the container to maintain the quality of transported goods. Therefore, a NavIC-based Reefer Monitoring System is designed using a low-cost NavIC receiver module, microcontrollers, and sensors. This system monitors the reefer parameters (temperature, humidity, gases, and current levels) continuously with respect to precise location and time. The results presented are preliminary and further work is being carried out to develop a full-fledged Reefer monitoring system that delivers continuous information to the driver and central station.
