In this paper, a system is considered with cuk converter-inverter connected to BLDC motor. As first part of work, inverter module is triggered using sliding mode controller for proposed system. Because of presence of integral term, there is a steady state error in the system which makes it sluggish. So there is a necessity to go for another better control method. Generally, the total energy of any system is expressed as sum of stored energy and dissipated energy. Passivity Based Control (PBC) method is an energy-based control method, deals with energy shaping, damping injection and tracking, which is achieved via Hamiltonian operator. In this research work, one of the PBC method namely Exact Tracking Error Dynamics Passive Output Feedback (ETEDPOF) method is used to drive a BLDC motor. In second part, ETEDPOF controller is used for cuk converter and Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) is used for inverter. The linear ETEDPOF controller adapts the precise variation by means of sensing output current and position of motor. Cost of production is reduced by eliminating position and speed sensors. Initial position estimation is done using zero crossing detectors. Speed is estimated from back emf sensors and gate signals are given to inverter. The proposed system with ETEDPOF method is simulated using MATLAB software. With varying load torque and speed conditions results are obtained. The variation in speed tracking delay is also observed.
