We propose a novel microcavity ring resonator, which can greatly enhance the Q factor without varying the gap size between the waveguide and ring cavity. The ring resonator takes advantage of the phase mismatch between the waveguide and the phase-ring cavity having the cosine curve region. We will refer to the novel ring resonator as a "phase-ring resonator". The characteristics of the phase-ring resonator are rigorously described by the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method.
