A problem of electromagnetic disturbances caused be electric traction vehicles on a designed suburban railway is presented in the paper. A method of modelling and simulation is applied to analysis of the whole system composed of a power utility system, DC traction substation, overhead catenary and a traction vehicle with power electronic equipment and a.c. motors. Vehicle's current harmonics and equivalent psophometric current in the overhead catenary for different conditions is calculated and compared with the permitted values for signalling circuits. Some recommendations for traction vehicle's design as well as for signalling circuits are enclosed.
