This paper presents a compact wideband dual-polarized aperture antenna operating in the millimeter-wave band (mmW) for MIMO-based 5G mobile communication systems. Using a rectangular aperture with the backed cavity design on PCB multi-layer structures, the proposed antenna exhibits dual-polarized and unidirectional patterns for broadside radiation operation. The developed antenna prototype possesses promising results, including a port isolation of more than 20 dB and an impedance bandwidth of 25%. The verified antenna is also further extended to a 1 by 4 array, where the port isolation is still better than 18 dB. All the antenna designs were verified by simulation and measurement.
