The urban road signal control will cause changes under the operating conditions of vehicles arriving at the entrance of the intersection, thus tremendously increasing the emission of vehicles at the intersections. How to reduce vehicle emissions by effective signal control has become one important research of the urban traffic control. Based on the analysis of vehicle emissions at a single intersection, this paper establishes a signal control optimization model for intersection group with minimum emission target, thus realizing the optimization of vehicle emissions for intersection group. In the model of intersection emission calculation, this paper adopts the emission calculation method based on the intersection parking condition, combined with individual vehicle’s parking conditions at the entrance and the corresponding operating conditions to calculate the total emission. In the process of signal control optimization, this paper keeps the phase design and cycle duration in the original signal timing scheme unchanged, only optimizes the green light duration, and uses the genetic algorithm to solve the optimization model to obtain the optimal timing scheme of the intersection group, and one intersection group of Kunshan city was selected for case analysis and evaluation, which proved the effectiveness of the signal control optimization model.
