Welcome to our September issue! I enjoy the opportunity to talk to you all, and you may remember that in a recent editorial I bent your ears to excoriate something called "citation stacking." Stacking refers to editors' efforts to manipulate referencing to increase their journal's impact factor, the IF being the average number of citations each published article gets over a rolling twoyear interval. (Authors have been known to "stack," too: some do cynical things to increase their seeming relevance as measured by citations. Ugh.)
