Though the years, an increasing number of countries have played a role in deep space exploration. In 1962, the United States' (US) Mariner 2 mission passed by Venus, making it the world's first interplanetary spacecraft.1 The 1970 landing of the Soviet Union's Venera 7 spacecraft marked the first successful landing of a spacecraft on another planet.
