This paper presents the design and control of grid forming converter (GF) with photovoltaic (PV) array and wind driven doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) based microgrid. The battery is selected in such way that it supports the base load demand. However, the peak demand of the load is maintained by arrangement of battery, wind energy conversion system (WECS) and PV array. The grid forming converter maintains the voltage and frequency of the point of common coupling (PCC). Static transition switch (STS) is used to connect the stator of the DFIG with the PCC in cut in to cut out wind speed region. The field oriented control (FOC) in rotor side converter delivers the machine reactive power demand. The grid side converter (GSC) of DFIG is controlled by utilizing an improved comb-FLL control. The comb filter control has multiple advantages like regulating the DC-link voltage, extracting the fundamental load current term, providing the reactive power demand to the loads and mitigating the power quality (PQ) related problems. The maximum power of PV array is harvested by an incremental conductance (InC) method. It gives satisfactory operation during enormous dynamic situation. The double-stage PV source is used to support the peak load demand and the surplus power is used to charge the battery. This system with advanced GSC control follows the IEEE-519-2014 standard, which maintains the grid current total harmonic distortion (THD) bellow 5%.
