In recent years, the increasing complexity of ship tasks has led to higher requirements being placed on the automatic control system for underactuated ships. In order to achieve efficient and safe navigation, the automatic berthing system has become an indispensable part of the ship control system. With the development of intelligent ship technology, establishing an efficient and accurate intelligent berthing system is of significant practical importance. This paper provides a comprehensive overview and summary of the control methods and existing research on the automatic berthing technology of ships. Specifically, this paper reviews the application of neural networks, fuzzy control, and self-adaptive turbulence algorithms in automatic berthing of ships, and provides an in-depth analysis of the development and related research of these algorithms both domestically and abroad. Finally, this paper presents an outlook on the future development trends and research directions, taking into account the current problems in the field of berthing technology control.
