Underwater glider (UG) is a kind of underwater mobile observation equipment., which has incomparable advantages in ocean observation and detection because of its long endurance and low cost. In this paper., a three degree of freedom (DOF) variable wing structure model for fixed wing UG with weak regulation and poor maneuverability is proposed. According to the symmetrical characteristics of UG., a simplified numerical model of single wing is proposed to analyze the effects of hydrodynamic forces generated by two modes of wing motion in fuselage coordinates. The calculation results show that the relationship between the propulsive force and the rotational speed of a single wing is quadratic function., and the propulsive force value produced by counterclockwise (CCW) rotation is larger than clockwise (CW) rotation. When the single wing flapping around the axis of the UG., the steady propulsive force and lift force can be generated. The maximum propulsion force corresponds to the space attitude angle range of 27.5-32.5deg. The research results can provide a reference for the design and development of new model underwater vehicles.
