The invention relates to a process and a device for the testing of rail vehicle wheel sets under realistic load conditions, whereby radial and/or axial forces can be introduced in the wheel support points of the two rail vehicle wheels via the rail vehicle axle of the same in order to simulate a variety of different loading conditions. In a particular version of the process and the device according to the invention, it is also possible to introduce additional axial forces onto the wheel support point of a rail vehicle wheel or on the wheel support points of the two rail vehicle wheels in addition to the axial forces introduced via the vehicle wheel axle via the wheel tyres or via the rails on which the rail vehicle wheel is running during the test. In this way, a complete rail vehicle wheel set can be tested and in particular the weakest loading points can be determined.
