he tester has the wheel mounted on a shaft attached to a support. The wheel is located inside a casing attached to a rotating drive shaft. The wheel's support can be moved laterally and vertically by servo-hydraulic pistons to force the wheel against the inside of the casing thereby simulating lateral and vertical forces on the wheel. For example, retracting the vertical piston causes the upper part of the wheel to press against the inside of the top of the casing. The tester can be used to examine the behaviour of single or double wheels, of tyres, of rims and of bearings etc.
