A water intrusion prevention system for a roof top sensor module includes a bolt, a cap nut, gaskets, and a rib. The module is connected to a roof of an autonomous vehicle, and includes a shell defining an interior and a sensor arranged therein. A shaft of the bolt is inserted up through an opening in the roof, up through an opening in the shell, and up through an opening in the rib so that a top portion of the shaft is arranged in the interior. The top portion of the shaft and the cap nut are connected together in the interior, which connects the module to the roof. The cap nut and the gaskets together form a liquid-tight seal that prevents liquid/water in the interior of the shell from passing through the opening in the roof into an interior of the vehicle under the roof.
