A heat pump system for an electric vehicle has a battery, at least one seat, a cabin, and an air conditioner to adjust the temperature within the cabin. The heat pump system comprises: a refrigerant circulatory system for circulating a refrigerant between first and second heat exchange regions; a compressor arranged in the refrigerant flow path between the first and second heat exchange regions; and an expansion valve arranged in the refrigerant flow path between the first and second heat exchange regions. The first heat exchange region is positioned in thermal contact with the seat of the electric vehicle and is arranged to receive thermal energy from a passenger in the seat. The second heat exchange region is positioned in thermal contact with one of the battery and the air conditioner of the electric vehicle, and is arranged to provide thermal energy to the battery or the air conditioner.
