An eco-friendly propulsion system for a ship is disclosed. According to the present invention, the eco-friendly propulsion system for a ship generates electricity from a green methanol generator engine with zero carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions instead of a conventional generator engine to provide the necessary power and/or propulsion output for the ship, which can dramatically reduce pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions in the exhaust from the ship, and ultimately comply with environmental regulations under the international maritime organization (IMO) emission regulations.
