The present invention provides a vehicle and a driving mode control method, which can automatically drive a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in accordance with a preset preference of a driver if the distance to a destination is longer than an electric vehicle (EV) drivable distance when driving the PHEV. The vehicle, when an EV drivable distance calculated in accordance with the SOC level of a battery is shorter than the distance to a destination set by a driver, provides the driver with a recommended EV mode section in accordance with a preset driving situation division, a preset EV mode preference section priority, and traffic information for each section in the route to the destination and applies a final EV mode section determined by the driver by using the recommended EV mode section without modifications or modifying the recommended EV mode section to run. The traffic information for each section in the route includes the speed limit for each section and traffic congestion situations. The driving situation division includes at least one among a division for each traffic situation, a division for each special zone, and a division for each running purpose.

    본 발명은 PHEV 차량의 주행 시 목적지까지의 거리가 EV 주행가능 거리보다 길 경우 미리 설정해 놓은 운전자의 선호에 맞춰서 자동으로 주행할 수 있도록 하는 자동차 및 주행 모드 제어 방법을 제안한다. 상기 자동차는, 배터리의 SOC 레벨에 따라 연산한 EV 주행 가능 거리가 운전자가 설정한 목적지까지의 거리에 비해 짧을 때, 미리 설정해 놓은 주행 상황 구분, 미리 설정한 EV 모드 선호 구간 우선순위 및 상기 목적지까지의 경로 내 구간별 교통정보에 따라 상기 운전자에게 추천 EV 모드 구간을 제공하고, 상기 운전자가 상기 추천 EV 모드 구간을 그대로 또는 수정하여 결정한 최종 EV 모드 구간을 적용하여 운행하며, 상기 경로 내 구간별 교통정보는 구간별 제한 속도 및 교통 정체 상황을 포함하며, 상기 주행 상황 구분은, 교통 상황별 구분, 특수 구역별 구분, 및 운행 목적별 구분 중 적어도 하나를 포함한다.
