A present disclosure, generally, relates to a system and method for tracking an object in proximity to an autonomous vehicle. Specifically, the present invention relates to a technology for an object tracking system capable of re-identifying an object that has temporarily lost a line of sight. Re-identifying of the object allows detection of a previous object to be more effectively used for predicting a motion for which the object is likely to take. The method comprises: a capturing step; a detecting step; an associating step; an obtaining step; a comparing step; an associating step; and a driving step.
