The present invention provides an apparatus for determining a motion direction of a moving object, which obtains an initial position value of an underwater moving object with respect to an early launching reference coordinate based on a direction of a magnetic field generated by a basic object after the moving object is launched from the basic object, and which uses the initial position value as a reference of control with respect to the moving object. According to the present invention, the apparatus comprises: an initial direction setting unit setting an initial motion direction of a moving object based on information about a direction of a magnetic field in case of determining that the moving object begins to move; a position control unit stabilizing a position of the moving object based on information obtained by a first sensor and the initial motion direction; and a current direction determination unit determining a current motion direction of the moving object by correcting the initial motion direction based on information obtained by a second sensor in case a position of the moving object is stabilized.
