To provide an automobile door latch device that has a relatively simple structure, is light-weighted, and securely maintains the closed state even when the direction of inertia acting on an inertia lever is reversed upon collision.SOLUTION: In an automobile door latch device according to the invention, there is utilized, as an energization member (26) that applies energization force to an inertia lever (13), an over-center spring (26) in which an acting direction of the energization force is reversed along with rotation of the inertia lever (13). The over-center spring (26) is configured to: when the inertia lever (13) is at the initial position that enables releasing engagement of an engagement mechanism (3), energize the inertia lever (13) towards a direction for holding the inertia lever at the initial position; and when the inertia lever (13) is at a stopping position that disables releasing the engagement, energize the inertia lever (13) towards a direction for temporarily holding the inertia lever at the stopping position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
